DELTA FORCE
History, Delta Force:
Delta Force, officially known as the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (SFOD-D), is an elite unit within the United States Army.
It was established in 1977 by Colonel Charles Beckwith and is primarily tasked with carrying out counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, and other high-risk missions.
Patterned after the British SAS, Delta Force members are expertly trained in various combat tactics, weapons handling, intelligence gathering, and languages.
The unit played a crucial role in events such as the Iranian Embassy Siege in 1980 and the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993.
Recruitment, Delta Force:
Becoming a member of Delta Force is a rigorous and highly selective process.
Prospective candidates are primarily drawn from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command but must first meet particular qualifications before receiving an invitation to take part in the unit's secretive selection process known as "Delta Selection."
This process includes challenging physical fitness tests, mental evaluations, land navigation exercises, and problem-solving scenarios that test one's ability to work under extreme pressure.
Those who pass are then subjected to a specialized Operator Training course, which consists of marksmanship training, martial arts instruction, advanced combat tactics, and language courses.
Jobs, Delta Force:
Jobs within Delta Force can be categorized into four main functional areas: assaulters and operators, snipers and observers, support (intelligence and targeting), and communications experts.
As an assaulter or operator, you'll engage in direct combat operations such as counter-terrorism raids and hostage rescues.
Snipers and observers provide long-range surveillance and the identification of high-value targets for precision strikes.
Intelligence and targeting personnel aid in information gathering through human intelligence (HUMINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), and imagery intelligence (IMINT) sources to facilitate effective mission planning.
Finally, communications experts ensure secure lines of communication between team elements during operations to maintain situational awareness throughout the mission.
All members of the Delta Force are cross-trained to ensure flexibility and versatility in any given operation.
